“The one that started it all” – Glenfiddich 70th Birthday cake 0
For my father-in-law who is Scottish, what better cake than a 2D Glenfiddich bottle. (I’m sure the real thing would’ve have been better though!) It’s a chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache frosting, which is way better than buttercream in my opinion! I’m not sure how heavy the cake was in the end, but let me tell you it wasn’t the easiest cake to carry.
Apple Cake 0
I
Normally when I think birthday cake I immediately think chocolate. However, my Dad isn’t a fan of chocolate but love apple pie. So what cake does one make? An apple cake of course.
From the outside it does admittedly look plain and boring, however serve this warm with some vanilla ice-cream and you’ll be in seventh heaven. A definitely more-ish cake.
Pumpkin Cake 0
As you can tell this has become one of my favourite cakes. Instead of a cream cheese frosting which is typically paired with this type of cake, I went with a rich brown butter frosting. The result is a cake, that is not too sweet, combined with just the right amount of sweetness from the frosting. Please sir, can I have some more?
Barney and Friends: 2nd Birthday 0
This was a fun and certaintly challening cake to make. The figurines of the Barney and Friends were the hardest to make. Things always dont work out the way you imagine them to. (Isn’t that always the case though?)
The main cake was a chocolate covered ganache cake covered in homemade vanilla fonant. The cupcakes, which were part of a give away bag, were rainbow cupcakes (see picture above) topped with a buttercream frosting. The rainbow itself was made out of royal icing but wasn’t as easy as I thought they would be to make. Two words – time consuming, but well worth it.
Ready to Pop! 0
A vanilla and lemon poppy seed cake and cupcakes made for a friend’s baby shower. I stole this idea from another friend’s baby shower and then realised I had these popcorn holders. I immediately thought of putting mini cupcakes in them for giveaways. Both cake and cupcakes turned out great. I love it when everything comes together.
Surprise! Cupcakes in a cake 0
From the outside you see just an ordinary looking vanilla cake and your not at all excited about it, unless you love vanilla flavoured cakes. But then you cake a slice and your eye is immediately hit with bursts of colours in the form of cupcakes.
If I were to make this again I would probably add more cupcakes to create a more powerful impact when you cut the cake up.
