FAQs
What is the difference between buttercream frosting and whipped cream frosting?
While both frostings are delicious, there is a difference. Butter cream is a much heavier, sweeter frosting because it primarily consists of butter and powdered sugar. Delicious!
I find buttercream frosting too sweet. Can I use whipped cream instead?
Whipped cream icing is not always recommended due to its soft and unstable nature, especially in Singapore’s humid climate. I would recommend whipped cream for cakes or cupcakes that are to be eaten almost straight away and not kept out for display, at a party for example.
Will the colours run on my cake?
You will have more of a chance of colours running on a cake that has whipped cream, than buttercream. If you want more intricate piping details and many colours, buttercream is the way to go.
What is the difference between buttercream and fondant?
Fondant has a smoother appearance and is often used to create more elaborate designs. More importantly it will stand out on display for longer periods. It can also only be used with buttercream. Whipped cream must be refridgerated.
Wow Taz, you make some AMAZING cakes! They’re making me hungry. I’ve come to Cakephoric for some inspiration for Charlotte’s first birthday. I’d love to order one from you, but shipping to Australia would probably be unsuccesful.
So my question for the day is, how do you make fondant? I want to try and make some roses like your red ones!
